Something worth watching this weekend.

Hi Everyone,
Happy Friday! Thanks for spending part of it reading The Lake Street Journal.
It's looking like work is going to be very busy for a while, which unfortunately means less writing from me. But life is all about seasons, and hopefully more work now will make room for more writing later.
That said, I've sent this email every week for almost six years, and I don't plan on breaking the chain. I'll keep coming at ya every Friday with at least a couple recommendations to get you through the weekend.
Here's what I got for this week.
A friend of mine sent me this podcast a few weeks back, and I finally got around to listening this week. It's a round table discussion between Peter Attia, another doctor, a trainer, and a physical therapist, and they cover everything from the benefits of strength training to ideal protein consumption to adapting your workout routine as you age to their philosophies on childhood training and sports.
It's a great listen, and even if you're nailing your diet, exercise, and injury prevention, I still think you'll take something away from this conversation.
Zohran Mamdani won the NYC mayoral election this week. Unless you live under a rock, you've probably heard a lot about Mamdani.
And depending on where you fall on the political spectrum, you probably have some strong feelings about him. As somebody who typically leans a little to the right, I didn't have a favorable opinion.
But my opinion was mostly based on soundbites, so I wanted to learn more. After listening to his conversation with Andrew Schulz, I changed my mind.
Don't get me wrong, you won't catch me wearing a Mamdani t-shirt or moving to NYC, but I finished the podcast thinking that he's actually pretty reasonable and has some ideas that could be good for New York City.
I share this not because I think everyone should listen to the conversation but to highlight how important it is to go to the source and form your own opinions. If you're not consuming primary sources, you aren't thinking for yourself.
What I loved about this episode had nothing to do with the conversation and everything to do with the host. Schulz hosted President Trump before last year's election. He, along with Rogan and some other big names are a huge part of the reason Trump won. And only a year later, Schulz sat down with Zohran Mamdani—essentially the exact opposite of Trump—had a very nice conversation, and basically supported him.
I aspire to be the type of person who votes for candidates based on the quality of their ideas rather than the letter next to their name. The more people who think this way, the better our country will be.
So if you think you don't like Mamdani, give this episode a listen. Or pick somebody else you think you disagree with and hear what they have to say. You might be surprised what you learn.
Workout of the Week
This workout lived up to its name. I was sucking wind and staring at the floor more than I'd like to admit.
"Mouth Breather"
20 minute AMRAP:
500m row
50ft. walking lunge (w/ 35lb dbs)
5 strict pull-ups
10 parallel bar dips
My goal was 5+ rounds. I finished four rounds plus the row in the 5th round. Pretty weak showing, but it was good to get in a sweat. Hope you do better than I did!
