A few things to think about this weekend.

Hi Everyone,
Happy Friday! Thanks for spending part of it reading The Lake Street Journal.
This conversation is more than two years old, but I watched it for the first time this week over the course of a few runs on the treadmill.
I love Peter Attia's content on health and longevity. It gives me something to strive towards. And you all know I love Ryan Holiday, so this was a treat.
What I enjoyed most was that it was slightly different than some of Attia's other interviews. They talked a lot about emotional health and getting hold of the desire to work too much or strive continuously for challenging goals. It's not to say these things are necessarily bad, but they can be if left unchecked.
I can identify with this feeling they discussed—the desire to continuously work toward the next goal but to also be a good father and husband—and I find it useful to hear how other people deal with it. If you consider yourself Type A or a very ambitious person, I think you'll benefit from this conversation.
This was an interesting read that put into words a feeling I've had for a long time.
The (possibly crude) way I put it is, often, the more time people spend in therapy, the more they need therapy.
The author of this piece wrote something similar, maybe in a nicer way: "the way we increasingly pathologize normal emotions, frame everyday struggles in clinical terms, and teach young people to interpret their inner lives through diagnostic labels appears to be making youth mental health worse—not better."
Another quote that stood out to me: "The trouble with most therapy is that it helps you to feel better. But you don’t get better: You have to back it up with action, action, action."
This is probably a controversial take. You might even think it's contradictory to the podcast I just mentioned. I see it as balancing and complementary. Hope you find it interesting, not offensive.
Nothing profound about this one, but I read it this week and saw it as a welcome reminder to do the things I say I'm going to do.
It's a simple but meaningful standard—something we should all strive to achieve.
Workout of the Week
It's been more than a year since I last did this one. Think it's time to go back into the pain cave.
"Uptempo"
3 rounds for time:
500/400m row
20 lateral burpees over dumbbell
20 alternating db snatches (50/35)
Goal: <15 mins
My time: 14:15
Let me know how you do!
Quote of the Week
